Dr Urmila Roy studied at Royal Free and University College Medical School London, where she obtained degrees in both Medicine and Primary Care in 2008.
She relocated to the North East in 2008 and has practised Medicine since. She has a wide breadth of experience and many qualifications over different clinical disciplines. She has postgraduate credentials in both hospital medicine and primary care and has undertaken more unusual types of work such as the Diploma of Tropical Medicine, volunteering in rural villages in Africa and being a clinical frailty lead for a local clinical commissioning group. Dr Roy completed General Practice training in 2015 and still remains on the medical register, undertaking the occasional locum.
Dr Roy began her transfer to the legal field in 2018, eventually being called to the Bar in 2021. During her training she won a major Harmsworth scholarship at Middle Temple, obtaining her Graduate Diploma in Law with a Commendation. She then completed her Bar studies with a Distinction, whilst still working as a Doctor and raising a young family.
Dr Roy is also a keen semi-professional musician, having attained ABRSM Grade 8 in four instruments by the age of fifteen.
Dr Roy is currently in her first six and will be accepting instructions in September 2022.
