Paul practised as a Barrister for over ten years in Newcastle, between 1987 and 1998. He then became an associate in a firm on the Isle of Man from 1998 to 2000. In 2000 Paul and his family moved to Guernsey.
He subsequently qualified as an Advocate and was called to the Guernsey Bar in 2003, whilst working with another local law firm where he became a partner in 2003. In April 2007, Paul founded his own firm in Guernsey.
In 2020, Paul returned to his native north-east and joined Chambers
Paul has wide court-based experience in commercial litigation. His experience makes him one of the most skilled dispute resolution lawyers in currently in practice. Paul has historically specialised in professional negligence claims, particularly relating to financial and investment claims, trust disputes and clinical negligence.
Paul has also been heavily involved in advising upon and navigating financial regulatory investigations.
In relation to contentious work, Paul has regularly been instructed in significant disputes (often multi-jurisdictional), particularly acting for insurers and defendants.
He also has significant experience in contentious employment matters. The current regulatory environment has led to an increase in employment related claims, for example directors’ disqualification actions and regulatory issues involving financial institutions and other regulated entities.
Paul is a Barrister and Advocate of over 30 years experience and has practised in numerous areas during his career. He is more than happy to take instructions across Chambers' spectrum of practice.
